Love the CFS, mashed potatoes, and creamed corn.

Ok, when you grow up in Grandma's kitchen in the south, understanding good down home cooking comes natural. This is not it. The overall experience was just ok. The atmosphere was fun and welcoming and the service, was very good considering the noise. I sampled everything except the ribs. The smoked chicken had a wonderful flavor but was very dry. The catfish was average and the fried chicken was mostly breading. The pot roast, don't bother. However, the bottomless sides were fantastic. The green beans, creamed corn and mashed potatoes were served family styled and pleased even my picky eater kids. The best part though was explaining to my kids that RC Cola was all we could afford as I was groing up and how it was our knock-off version of Coke. I hadn't had one in many years., but they could barely hear me due to how loud it was. My wife said she would eat here again, but she's from the north. I could also, but I will not rush to do it!

We have brought family members from around the country here, including some amazing home chefs, and everyone loves this place. When I have a taste for catfish, or fried chicken, or smoked chicken, or chicken fried steak, or home made rolls, or - - - well, you get the picture, it's Babe's that I crave. The smoked chicken is about the best I've ever had. I limit my visits here because it is impossible for me to not give in to all the goodness and eat sensible, small portions. My only quibble is that is gets noisy and hard to converse when the place is busy. Super nice and efficient servers.

I'll NEVER understand why an empty restaurant would jam us in a corner and cram a party of 6 on top of us? This type of thing should Never happen! We WILL NOT be back to this particular Babes! The food was a 5 and the above BS is a 0.

Having been to the one in Addison, I just knew this place had to be good. My balloon was burst after the food arrived. The waitress was fun, cooky, and hilarious! But...even her awesomeness could not make up for the underwhelming fare. The chicken was warm, but lacked the same pop that the one in Addison has. The mashed potatoes were great, and the corn was good, but the chicken was the watering trough dragging behind the speedboat here. The place was not lit very well, noisy, and bare. There were a few people there, but it did not have the same down home, friendly, and fun feeling that Addison has. I truly wanted to like this place, but it just didn't do it for me.

What a great experience! Very friendly, good prices, and very good quality. Had the fried chicken, and I had the smoked chicken. Both were excellent. We really enjoyed the friendly staff and very nice environment.

Great for large parties or if you are really hungry! Loud & lively! Birthdays are fun here since they have the birthday gal/guy put on a chicken hat. Quite amusing! Chicken is good. Not out of this world but good. Salad is simple. All the sides are bottomless but you have to ask them to refill. So keep asking! Price is a bit high but not compared to all the food you get or can get. So go hungry, take lots of folks, laugh & wear stretchy pants!!! You won't leave hungry.

I have to say - this is the best fried chicken I have had in a long time. My son loves the Chicken Fried Steak, so I usually grab a bit if his and I can say it is one of the best around. The service is prompt and efficient, and you can have all the sides you can eat. No taking home the leftovers though. If you can save room for desert do so - the pies have to be experienced at least once. Everything is actually based on old family recipes - it's not just marketing copy on the back of a menu. Two tips - first the biscuits are great with honey. Second - if you are with another person and want to actually have room for dessert order a vegie plate. Then you can share a meat serving and possibly have room to enjoy the pies. And two cautions - the dining room is noisy. Don't go expecting to have an intimate conversation. The combination of hard surfaces, close tables, and large groups passing vegetables and sharing the family style fun makes for a "energetic" environment. Secondly - at peak times be prepared to wait. However, there is a nice outdoor waiting area and warm fireplace to enjoy.

I have been to 4 Babe's (Carrollton, Burleson, Cedar Hill, and Granburry) . My husband and I used to drive all the way to the Burleson location until the Cedar Hill location opened. Now we frequent the Cedar Hill Babe's. We regularly bring friends and family here. So far, they have all loved it and returned for more. In fact, my father-in-law from another state -who regularly travels all over the US- requests that we go to Babe's every time he visits us. They offer heaping platters of fried chicken, smoked chicken, chicken fingers, smoked chicken, chicken fried steak, catfish and pot roast for ~$10. The platters are accompanied by scrumptious, unlimited refills of sweet vinegar salad, creamed corn, green beans (like my great grandmother made), mashed potatoes and creamed gravy, and biscuits. Short, simple, and fail proof. Some locations offer more meats and sides. My favorites (in order) are the smoked chicken, chicken fried steak, chicken fingers, fried chicken, and catfish. However, I need to reiterate that EVERYTHING is delicious :). I put honey or molasses on the biscuits. Everything is so amazing that I haven't had room for dessert yet! However, the pies look incredible. While the decor varies from Babe's to Babe's (Burleson's decor is my favorite), the atmosphere is always inviting. The server's and children regularly perform the hokey-pokey and the Chicken Dance. Occasionally, a server will perform a delightful rendition of Patsy Cline's 'Crazy' while walking through the restaurant. I'm originally from the Southeast, and you can't get more delicious from scratch Southern comfort food than this anywhere.

This place is our "dinner out" of choice! We have been here 7-8 times and love it, every time. The service is great and the food is great and the price is right. Babe's has ruined us for fried chicken from anywhere else! And the chicken is so good we can't be bothered ordering another dish. I had family in town and had to take them to Babe's and they loved it. A great family restaurant but it's ok for just a couple too. Their mashed potatoes and cream gravy are so, so good.

Great food. My only complaint is that you can not take your left over side dishes home :(

Driving back from Corsicana, stopped to visit a friend then headed home - hungry - thought - what was near... Babe's.... good choice. Got seated right away. Friendly wait staff. Traditional - beverages, salad, hot rolls (wow - those are good!!). One of us ordered chicken, other fish. Large bowls of potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn. Platter of chicken - 5 pieces. Fish - 4 or 5. Both of us had plenty and I took some chicken home for lunch next day. Food was served quickly and was hot and very tasty - as good as Mom used to make. Most enjoyable. Have been to several Babe's locations and always find similar - good atmosphere, friendly and good service, great food. No room for desert tonight but in the past was very good. Will surely return - various locations.

Okay I have to start this review with I have been to the Roanoke location several years ago and it was delicious; however, this visit was very disappointing. There were 5 of us and they brought out one small order of sides that we had to immediately ask for more. I ordered fried chicken and it was so dry I couldn't even chew it. Everyone else ordered the chicken fried steak and seemed to enjoy it so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I did think the mashed potatoes and corn were good. The corn was a creamy sweet mixture. The manager was very nice and did comp my meal since I ate two bites. I would give them another chance. Maybe it was an off day. We went on a Sunday and it was packed. We waited around 15 minutes at 1:15. You would really think this was the only restaurant in Cedar Hill.

I don't have much more to add, other than I concur. This is some good eatin' at a good price. My family of four enjoyed a very filing and tasty take-out dinner one Friday night for $35, including dessert. #Winning! The ribs were surprisingly moist and had a nice flavor. The kids enjoyed their individual plates and mini sides of corn, mashed potatoes AND green beans. With a price of about $5, that's the best value for a kids meal I've seen 'round these parts. This place is definitely going in the rotation.

  • Christy O.

This place is on my lunchtime rotation although the location isn't really convenient for me to get to. I always get the chicken tenders with honey mustard and I ask for a side of the pickled green tomato relish that they usually serve with the fried catfish. It is a nice compliment to the tenders. The salad is fresh, crisp and who cares if it's just iceberg lettuce. The sweet, tasty dressing makes up for that. The creamed corn is great too. I can't get enough of it. The biscuits are sinful and fresh out of the oven. I can't stop at one. One thing I find a little weird is this country joint doesn't serve sweet tea. It sort of doesn't make any sense. They do serve diet RC, as a diet choice which is also uncommon.

It has been many years since I've visited Babe's Chicken when I lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. My wife has never been, nor my children, so we decided to go here for Saturday afternoon lunch. The entrance was a little difficult for us to find. It's a quirky design but cool. Once you find the front entrance you walk down a dimly lit hall to the hostess area. We were sat right away at an oversized table with the Lazy Susan on it. If you've never been to Babe's Chicken before then you might be wondering why there's a Lazy Susan. So I'll tell you. You have a choice of five meats to choose from. They are best known for their fried chicken and of course that's what I'll recommend to you. I ordered the fried chicken, Which comes with five pieces of chicken. My wife ordered the fried catfish which came with four pieces if I remember correctly. The boys ordered chicken strips (three pieces each). Everything else is served family style; you get green beans, corn, mash potatoes and gravy. All of the side items are as much as you want to eat. The meat is what you get, but trust me there is more than enough food for even the most hearty of eaters, especially with all you can eat side dishes. You can also take any of the meat home that you bought, but you can't take any of the side dishes home. So when they bring all the side dishes out they placed them on the Lazy Susan which makes it very convenient to turn the Susan around the table instead of asking and having to reach across the table from dishes. Our waitress was very friendly and very helpful especially since it's been years for me (and never for my wife) on what and how to order. She had what appeared to be a new waitress that was tagging along and actually did a lot of the legwork for us and she was also very good. While you're waiting for your meal to come to you, you will get a salad that's just lettuce and some kind of sweet dressing, and some very delicious fluffy biscuits. They also had several desserts to choose from, each sounding very delicious, but none that I could eat because we were so full. Another quirky thing was the bathroom. I asked a manager where it was located and he said I'll walk you there. So the boys and I walked down the hall and all we could see was a red door at the end of the hall but, well I'll just let you find out for yourself if you go. It's cool and quirky. We will definitely go here again when we're in this part of Texas.

This is a small down home country place. If you don't like gravy...don't come. It's the best chicken fried steak in town hands down. All you can eat sides. The to-go BAGS can only be used for on the main course. Country food at a country price.

Wait a minute! Why isn't there a Babe's in Houston? Cause I've been missing a little piece of heaven on earth. I was visiting my best friend and she suggested this place for an early dinner. When I walked in and saw the mismatched chairs and homey feel of the place, I knew I was in for a treat. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who informed me of how things worked since it was my first time. Order your own meat (fried chicken, fish, chicken fried steak I think, etc.) anyway I chose the smoked chicken and my friend got the fried. Sides were family style, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans. While we waited for our dinner she brought out the softest fluffiest hot biscuits, which I promptly slathered with butter and gobbled up. We also got a green salad, really just green nothing else in it, and dressed with a kind of sweet vinegarette, probably homemade. Then dinner came, YEAH! Delicious and flavorful chicken through and through and the sides were great. For dessert I had peach cobbler and my friend had the pineapple upside down cake, awesome. The only thing I would change is the way they send you home with leftovers. I mean there was half a chicken on my plate and I eat slow, so of course I wanted to take it home. So when the waitress comes back to the table with a clear plastic bag, you know the ones like you put fruit in at the grocery store, I sat there looking confused! Then my friend tells my that's what they do there. It's so you can take your entree, not the sides. I guess it's cause the sides are unlimited?? But what am I supposed to eat my chicken with when I get home!! Well I won't dock you a star for that one cause I still ate my leftover chicken by itself later, lol, but I will make the proper preparations for next time.........if you know what I mean.

Babe's is always good it never disappointments love the fact that its family style but hate that you cant take any sides home with your leftover meat. When we go we always have leftovers but you cant take any sides to the house. I have had every meat on the menu and its always good. I love thier sides as well. You have to tey the pineapple upside down cake its great.

I had heard great reviews about this place so I visited...I can cook better at home and not waste my time or money ... The only thing worth this visit was the corn and rolls. The meat is dry.

'Babes' is a must for Southern folks or those just visiting town. I have tried everything here and highly recommend the Catfish, Chicken Fried Steak and Fried Chicken. Wash that all down with sweet tea, and top it off with a Coconut Meringue Pie. One complaint I have is the quality of the ribs... While they're tender and have nice flavor, the overall "cook" distorts the texture, becoming slippery and mushy.

  • Kelsey M.

Holy cow this place is awesome! From the delicious food with unlimited vegetable refills to yummy chicken (had fried and smoked). The biscuits are beyond delicious and they have honey or syrup - I almost filled up on these things! The decor is really cool with hens and roosters all over the place. The staff are friendlier than most places.

Best Fried chicken!!! The food is fantastic it's more than anyone man could ever eat! I literally rolled out of the restaurant. Last time I ate here I couldn't walk for three days. God said let there be chicken and there was babes.

The fried chicken, fish or chicken fried steak are all delicious. Very family oriented and feel. I always enjoying going with done close friends just due to atmosphere.

  • Rodonna R.

The waitresses were awesome, the mash potato cream gravy and green beans were great, but the catfish was not that good at all to me. Still gave a great tip, because she did not cook the food only serve it.

Let me just say I am a die hard Babes chicken fan. Love love their smoked chicken. However, they recently pulled the ribs off the menu which sucks because it was my second favorite item. So yea you get 4 stars, really more like 4.49.

Am I the only one that abhors this place?! The food is unhealthy-which may be appealing for special occasions, but there should be some healthy options available if I am forced to visit this joint by my family members. How about at least one healthy menu option? I ordered the salad and the dressing is basically liquid sugar. News flash, does anyone know about the skyrocketing obesity epidemic in America?! Family style is basically a nice way of saying stuff your face and die from type 2 diabetes. Also, I absolutely have no desire to do the Hokey-Pokey while I am trying to eat, no thanks! The servers are too intrusive, just take my order and don't ask me to do stupid dances or make me suffer and watch you dance. The theme of this restaurant reminds me of my grandpa's old outhouse. And the illiterate sayings placed randomly throughout the establishment cause extreme cognitive dissonance to this former grammar teacher. I went to the Frisco location on a forced outing with a larger group (thanks mother!) and a couple of servers proceeded to clap and sing and have us pass plates down in a conveyer-like fashion. A- this is unhealthy, I do not want other people touching my plate. B- it is stupid and annoying. I truly hate this restaurant from the bottom of my soul. I have told my family I refuse to go there, so we go to Benihana if we want a cheesy celebration place to go. This restaurant would ideally be called Idiocracy: The Restaurant.

Family and I went to Babe's in Cedar Hill again tonight. We arrived about 4:30pm, as we wanted to ensure we missed the main dinner hour and the crowds. We were seated immediately and just as we were being seated the server arrived. She asked about our beverage choice, whether we had been there before, and explained the entrée selection and how it works. Great service throughout. Food, as usual, was delicious. I had the chicken strips, wife had the catfish, kids had the kids chicken drumstick. All served with biscuits, salad, green beans, mashed potatoes, and creamed corn. I don't much care for the salad dressing, as some have indicated also. My wife, as does my Mom, really enjoys it. That is the thing with that dressing - you either think it is really special, or you don't Not much middle ground on the dressing. Green beans were awesome as was the mashed potatoes. The cream corn and biscuits was better than awesome! Years ago I was invited into the kitchen of the Babe's in Garland and watched as they cut the corn off the cob to make the creamed corn. That is the secret to the freshness and flavor. Love it. We usually share a banana crème pie, but we were too stuffed today, as it was still a tad early for our normal dinner time. We did see one go by as we were walking to the cash register to pay ... we almost jumped on it. Cleanliness of restaurant, always good. Atmosphere is quirky and comfortable. Also like that the sorghum and honey is on the tables for the biscuits. Yum. Go to Babe's, you'll enjoy it. Got to get WiFi in the place ...

My wife and I decided to go to Babes on a Sunday, normally there is a crazy long wait guess we lucked out today. Service was normal, nothing more, nothing less. We enjoy this restaurant because the family style cooking and the all you can eat sides! The salad has a "house dressing" that may not be a fan favorite for everyone, other than that everything on the menu is delicious!

    (4)
  • Valerie M.

First time here, definitely a wonderful surprise. The staff was courteous and quick. My friend got the chicken fried steak, I got the catfish. Both were amazing and don't even get me started on the sides! Family style mashed potatoes and homemade gravy, oh my oh my! We went at lunch, it wasn't too busy which was nice. Definitely should try!

  • Laura C.

This time, we didn't stay to eat. The lack of cleanliness here will make you cringe. Last time we cleaned our own tableware and put up with a grungey table, S&P shakers and honey dispenser to get to their admittedly delicious food. Today we sat down to a greasy table that they were going to clean with a dirty looking wet cloth - two swipes at it. Mama nor Grandmama would have put up with this. I am over you, Cedar Hill Babes.

  • L T.

Simple DownHome Deliciousness! The food is always good and the service is always great. You can't beat the all you can eat sides and the orders of the meat entrees are very large. One thing is for sure, you will not leave hungry and the it's quality down-home eating!

  • Shirley B.

I was there on a cold rainy night. The restaurant had a damp uncomfortable feel to it more of an old outdated club vibe without the music. Speaking of music... Every 15 min the waitresses would dance to some craze song that blasted out. I thought that was totally ridiculous. The waitresses are nice, but the food was fair. There is no menu. The waitresses tell you what they are serving, and its served family portion style. You have no idea what the food will look or taste like until you get it. We ordered lots of food since we had no inkling about it. The biscuits tasted fresh made, gravy watery, corn, string beans, and fish was fair. The only thing I would eat from there again is the chicken. I would definitely call and pick it up.

    (3)
  • Annette W.

The only thing good at Babe's Chicken were the biscuits. They were amazingly soft and delicious! They were even more amazing with the honey! As for the rest of the food, I could've done without. The chicken had too much breading and the catfish was average. I had to put hot sauce on the catfish just to eat it and and I don't put hot sauce on my food! The mashed potatoes taste like they were fresh out the box! I think it's safe to say I won't be going back to Babe's ever again! Unless it's to get a dozen of biscuits to go!

    (1)
  • Regina G.

The food was great the only reason I didn't give more stars because the veggies that are left on your table you're still not allowed to take home I mean I get that the veggies come with the meal and they're basically free and you can have all you need to but I feel like you should be allowed to take home a less what you have left on your table I mean you paid for the meal.

This place has the best smoked chicken, best biscuits, best chicken fried steak, best potatoes and gravy. Great corn, Great service and cool atmosphere

Great food! Great atmosphere! Always enjoy the random manic an at the tables. It's like where's Waldo haha! You will leave stuffed. Does not issue to go cups and only allowed to take the meats home. No seconds to take home. But always still very good food and never a place that gets that burnt out feeling

Do not waste your time going to this Babes. The management is rude to the wait staff and therefore the wait staff is rude to the customers. We had a very large party and instead of them coordinating things so that they could seat us they ran around like chickens with their heads cut off (no pun intdnded). We waited for almost an hour and they even sat another party before us although we were there first. This is not the first time we've experienced poor attitudes at this location. They definitely need new management and possibly new ownership at this location. If you want a really good Babes experience visit the Burleson location. I gave this location one star because while nothing else was good the food was.

  • Malika A.

Overall I enjoyed the restaurant. It is a great place to bring the family. I loved the fried Chicken. Corn was good also. They don't let you bring home the leftover sides which I did not agree with since the sides were on our plates.

Have been here many times, but this last time was the worse service ever! Waitresses were the worse,on their phone while taking names to be seated, no silverware asked for it twice. Most likely will not come back to this location.

I have been going to the Cedarhill and Garland location for many years. I don't think I have ever had any better fried chicken, cream corn, or gravy than I can get here. On top of that you get all of the sides and biscuits you can eat. They offer a family friendly and fun atmosphere.

  • Trang D.

This is the epitome of southern comfort and classic home cooking. Biscuits from scratch , fresh honey on the table, ribs falling off the bone, crispy fried chicken and the country gravy is just perfect! No menus, just all you can fit in your belly! Definitely not a place to go if you are on a diet!

I was impressed that the wait was not that long today on Mother's Day, BUT we did intentionally go at 11am to beat that crowd. Many days you will be waiting A LOT longer than you will actually be sitting down in the restaurant. But I guess that just means people like the food. The service is good. It seems like every waitres is some cute high school girl who knows how to smile for those extra dollars. The food normally comes pretty quick, which can be a good and a bad thing. Since their menu is not that extensive, I know they just continuously cook everything in large batches so they can have it ready. The issue with that is sometimes you get stuck with lukewarm food, like our smoked chicken today. It was still tasty and flavorful though. Don't bother dressing up and making an effort to look nice when you come here. You will be overdressed. If you are someone that likes dining in elegance, this will be a change of scene for you. They play Country hits from different eras and some Doo-Wop. The waitresses do some kind of two step everyhour to "Boot Scootin' Boogie." The inside is made to look kind of like a large barn, and a lot of the people in there look like they might be real familiar with that particular atmosphere. But so what! Put the snobbery on hold if you must. If you come with a large party of people, you will have a good time. I once saw an old guy and a "Queen" get up and join the ladies in their two step. Too funny.

Love it. Great food nice and attentive staff. Consistently on target with food and service. Nice to be able to take teenage boys and they get full. This is a better place than the Bubbas on Hillcrest.

We always order take-out since the restaurant is usually crowded and loud. We ordered 2 chicken fried steak dinners and 2 fried chicken dinners. The CFS are huge, really feeds 4 folks, and they sent a 6 piece box of chicken. The sides were quart sized, and filled with yummy home style mashed potatoes and cream gravy, country green beans, sweet creamed corn, and fresh ice berg salad. The only negative, the biscuits tasted a little bitter, not sure why. It's kinda pricey +$50, but it fed 4 adults with enough left over for dinner tonight. The food is consistently hot and good.

If you love trying new foods STAY AWAY. This is for people who want the same boring crap every time and a large quantity of it. Green beans; tastes like straight from a can. Mashed potatoes boring but ok i guess. Creamed corn was decent. Chicken fried steak fried well but no special seasoning or anything unique. I drove an hour to go eat at this restaurant and was then very disappointed. If you like nice restaurants and trying new things then beware that this is not for you. With such great reviews I expect something incredible and instead it was like a went to a rednecks house to eat. You can't even choose what you get to eat. You get quite a bit of food and it is not too expensive that is all i can say that is good about it. Go here if you are broke but not if you want a nice night out. SOO boring here... Stay at home and fry your own chicken fried steak instead. One time i went to Chili's and asked them to chicken fry me a ribeye steak and that meal was 5x better than this place and I don't even like Chili's.

Oh my! What a fun place to eat! Casual as casual can be. Strictly family style. Delicious food and simply a laid back dining experience. NOTHING formal about this family restaurant. Server gave us a full explanation of the meat choices. We picked the ribs, catfish fillet, and the hickory smoked chicken. All entrees were very good. The ribs were served nice and hot and the smoked bbq flavoring was right on. The catfish fillet was lightly breaded and meat was fluffy and tasty. The smoked chicken was juicy and full of smoked flavor. The sides were mashed potatoes, green beans, cream corn, and milk gravy. The salad was all lettuce but we enjoyed the dressing. (No choice, you get what was served.). Our server was prompt, polite, patient, and professional. The portions are plentiful. Sides are all you can eat. Creamed corn is excellent! They did not hesitant to allow the two small children in our party ( age 3 and 4) to eat from our portion and brought them divided plates. A trip to the rest room is an illusion that will fool ya if you're not alert. (Rest rooms are exceptionally clean!) Babe's Chicken is a super place for a family meal. We definitely will be back for another fun time dinner in Cedar Hill.

This is the place to come to when you want a home cooked meal without having to do the work yourself. I can't get enough of their side dishes when I come in. I don't know what they do to get the potatoes so creamy, the gravy so smooth, and the corn and beans just perfect. Let me tell you, the salad and biscuits are just the best things on the table. Just don't miss Babe's. This place is awesome.

Great Comfort Food, long lines sometimes We went with a large party and called ahead, and the restaurant got us seated within about 20 minutes. The food is served family style, and everything we ate was fantastic. The biscuits are the bomb! The fried chicken is some of the best I have ever eaten, and the chicken fried steak was just delicious. The mashed potatoes were good, the green beans a little overcooked, but so flavorful. The salad is simple, but tastes so good... I can not wait to return to this byob establishment.

Now the name alone seems like it's an all "African-American" place? Nope-it actually owned by ummm.. Let's just say not black folks haaaa-sorry I had to put it like this. -DON'T GET SO OFFENDED- When I entered the place boy the name "Babe CHICKEN" really matched the place o_O The decorations and they have stuffed chicken (well the little chickens all over the place looked like stuffed chicken). It was very southern-different you know. This place serves their foods different from other restaurants which bothered me a bit. They brought every appetizers on the menu and your food. So you can't have appetizers first then your course meal-how backwards ehh! -that I wasn't feeling :-( Crazy thing is you can only take your main course meal to go but not your left over appetizer-I know "who'd bring their appetizers home anyway? But the fact that you get your appetizers at the end you're already full by the time you finished your meal o_O I honestly wasn't looking at any alcohol beverage drinks so forgive me for that one. I only had an unsweetened iced-tea. -which by the way helped a little with the hangover I was experiencing :-) I only had ribs-which was pretty decent. It was a people-friendly place. The price is right haaa! For me it was hmm! ok.

This restaurant is grea t for a fried chicken fix. There is nothing very healthy about anything they serve, but my family enjoys it occassionally. All of the ingredients are pretty cheap, but bottomless. My 4year old loves the salad, and both of my kids will eat the corn and chicken too. The green beans remind me of the ones my grandmother used to grow fresh and and can in her kitchen. They seriously take me back about twenty years. That being said I can't eat here very often, but sparingly is great. The decorations are kind of creepy... chickens, a ghostly looking bunny, and a mannequin at a table?! It all really creeps my kids out..one time they had to move the mannequin into another room, because they sat us at the table next to us, and my 2 year old started crying.... its a cooky atmoshere that is fun in small doses. Enjoy!

When it was announced that Cedar Hill would be getting a 'Babe's Chicken' the whole town went crazy. People I didn't even know were yelling at me to go there. "Go there and eat the best fried chicken! Go now or I will smash your face in" they yelled. And the place wasn't even open, yet! I spent three days hiding in my house because I was scared of getting my face smashed in. Okay, so maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but there was a lot of hype. When I went there to eat I was expecting to find the best fried chicken, ever! But, sadly, I was disappointed. It's not that it was bad chicken, it just certainly wasn't the best. It just tasted like plain ol' fried chicken! In fact, their chicken wasn't even my favorite part of the meal. The best part of the meal was the corn. It was also a bit awkward when the waitresses started dancing. I mean, I was trying to eat my food. Do I watch? or eat? If I watch, then my food is going to get cold and if I eat, then they might think I am being rude. So, I decided to just excuse myself and use the restroom. Boy, was that a mistake. On my way to the restroom I saw a creepy life-size bunny staring at me through a window. I'm still not sure why they have that thing in the restaurant, and I am too afraid to ask.

I had Babe's for the first time about a month ago (June 2012) but never got around to writing about my experience there. Well it was great. FIrst thing you should know is that it's family style. So everything comes out on big plates and in communal bowls that you pass around. Second thing you should know is the options are limited. They're delicious, awesome, tasty options, but if you're very picky/particular and not in the mood for anything they have available here, you're probably not going to enjoy your visit. But everything was great. I got the fried chicken, which was legit. Really juicy, crispy, tasty - just good. ALl the sides were really good too, but I liked the mashed potatoes and creamed corn the best. I wasn't a big fan of the salad they brought out, mostly because it came with this super sweet dressing, but I totally enjoyed everything else. I would have to rate this as some of the best southern cooking/soul food in the area. Check it out - it's a nice group experience.

After hearing so much about Babe's (especially the Cedar Hill spot - lemonade stand... ) and they have RC on TAP! Wooohoo! YES! My family and I made a trip out to Cedar Hill just to eat here, and we were not disappointed. We were not overly-impressed, either. A great place to eat, with really decent chicken. We got the ribs (yuck, please stop attempting ribs), the fried chicken (best of the bunch) and the smoked chicken (just OK). Normally, I'd say 3 stars, but RC on tap brings it up 1, if not 2. The Fried Chicken is by far the best, but it's probably a B+ or so. I make better, when I need to, but that's me and a small serving once in a blue moon. For large, mass-produced fresh fried chicken, Babe's is a wonderful place. The sides were interesting. Being from the Central Coast of California, we're used to fantastically fresh vegetables, so ALL of TEXAS was a shock when it came to veggies. Yikes, why do they treat their green beans like they should have been in a can!? Even when they get fresh ones, they over-cook them until their olive drab and taste like a bad canned veggie. Transplants tell me this is how it is in all of Texas, unfortunately. The corn was interesting, as I love all things corn: fresh, canned, creamed, etc. This tasted like a blend of canned corn with canned creamed corn. Interesting and enjoyable for me. Mashed 'taters and gravy were pretty cafeteria standard. I like cheap 'taters and gravy, so I was thrilled! The ribs were flat out awful. I do not know if I caught them on a bad day, but someone needs to teach them how to properly do ribs (you do not dry-rub and smoke country style pork ribs). The smoked chicken was decent, but on the dry side (again, smoking meats that are not overly fat and greasy will get you dry meat). The fried chicken was actually worth getting again. It was not too heavy on the breading, and like all of Texas, was a bit salty. But hey, salt IS a spice, no? If you want a nice Fried Chicken, and a beautiful, friendly staff all in a cool decor building, Babe's will not disappoint. It is priced reasonably, and THEY HAVE RC COLA ON TAP! That alone will have me ALWAYS stopping by. Did I mention they have RC on TAP? I love this place. I love the quasi-concealed restroom doors.

Ok so when I was searching for another restaurant I found this one in Cedar Hill not far from the movie theater off of Belt Line. This place is nice. If I were treating people (who were from out of town) to a country-Texas experience then I would take them here. The place has fake chickens all around. They have country sayings on the walls and the tables all have mismatched chairs (to give it a just pull up a chair and sit feel). The food comes out on a big serving plate and each person distributes their own food to their plates like at home. Birthday people receive a special song and a chicken hat. They also have the waitresses to line dance every now and again. The interior is pretty dimly lit, but I guess that adds to ambiance. Its not without its fair share of noise from people and music. The cost was reasonable, the food was decent and the staff were all very friendly. There are even places to sit outside in nice weather. Great experience. Try it out.

Went today and for the first time in years, there was no wait! I absolutely love this place! The portions are big, so we you can order one meat and two people can definitely eat off of it!

Very good fried chicken, moist and always cooked right. Chicken fried steak is good but not great. Very tasty and fresh catfish. Sides are always high quality and are never in short supply. The service is almost always quick and friendly. My family loves eating here. I've been to several of the babe's locations, but the Cedar Hill Babe's is my favorite. One thing I really like is that they have RC cola, which is kind of a throwback. PS: the coconut pie is extra good..

Babe's "Its not you it me" My search for the holy Grail of Fried Chicken continues......... Reading all the rave reviews on Yelp, I thought this has to be it. Let me start off the decor is pretty cool and I love the concept of never ending sides. The chicken had a nice crust and was served hot, but it was lacking any real flavor depth (Salty YES, Tasty NO) Now the sides where very disappointing and tasted very instant (You know what I mean, simple salad with canned green beans, canned cream corn, bulk pre-bottled gravy, mashed potatoes meh and OK biscuits) Even though the sides are all you can eat ~ After the first serving " I really didn't want any more" When it was all said and done, I felt like I had paid restaurant prices for school cafeteria quality food. I will go as far to say that maybe I got a bad batch of chicken ~ It happens !! But those sides just didn't move me....

OK, here's the deal. 1. Don't eat for a good stretch before heading to Babe's. 2. Take a couple of friends. 3. Wear pants with an elastic waist. 4. Prepare for a long nap afterwards. I am surprised at the amount of food you can eat for just a bit over 10 bucks. Everything is served family style. I've been a couple of times and have tried all the main dishes. My faves are the chicken tenders and fried catfish. Take some friends with you so you can all order something different and share. You start with a salad that you think will be void of all taste. All that is in the bowl is lettuce and their salad dressing. Tart but tasty. The sides are bottomless and my faves are the green beans and mashed potatoes. The corn is a bit too sweet for me. But, I still scarf it down. Once you finish a side, just ask for a refill. You gotta ask because they won't just bring it to you. I guess their way to not give the farm away. At this location, on the weekend, some of the waitresses rotate walking around the dining room singing. It sounds cheesy but all the ones I have heard can really sing. It's a nice touch. Babe's is one of my fave places. And, you know I like it when I schlep all the way down to Cedar Hill for it.

For what it is, there is nothing else like it. I wouldn't give the food, service or ambiance five stars, but the whole package does deserve the rating. The menu is limited to fried chicken, hickory smoked chicken and ribs, chicken fried steak, fried catfish.and fried chicken tenders. Everything is served family style with a green salad in a sweet vinaigrette dressing (delicious), beans and corn (just O.K.) gravy and incredibly delicious buttermilk biscuits. The portions are generous and the sides are all you can eat. They have really large tables that are great for groups. The servers go out of their way to be friendly and entertaining. The whole package provides a fun experience at an extremely reasonable price. It is BYOB - so you can bring your own beer or wine. We were there with a group of 11 and the service was great. All the food came out together and hot and the waitress was constantly there to see what else we needed. If you have a taste for the food on the menu go to Babe's, you won't be disappointed.

Just showed up for lunch based on you Yelpers. The decor/style was definitely different and pretty neat, but that's enough about that. The very friendly waitress sits me down and tells me, "ok, here's what we gonna give you: beans, mashed potatoes, biscuits, gravy, corn, and a salad. you just have to pick the meat." Whoa, wait, what now? All that? That's just one lunch order? Damn! I'll take the fried chicken please! Oh, do I have a choice of which parts? "Don't worry hon, you get 1 of each...a breast, leg, thigh, and wing." The smile on my face was only surpassed by the enormous spread of food that later appeared on my table. And everything was delicious! The fried chicken was crispy, moist, and flavorful...not all salty and dry like some places. It's always easy to dry out the breast and make it chewy. Not here. None of you have ever seen anyone scarf down so much food so quickly (I had to rush back to work). That chicken was so good! When I'm in town again...I'm coming back here! Warning: this place is not for the faint of heart, literally.

Large family style restaurant with a fun atmosphere and a very attentive waitress. All of the sides (I'm a vegetarian so I cannot speak to the meat) are very rich in taste. The salad dressing has a sweet sugary taste, the biscuits are wonderful especially with honey. The mashed potatoes are very rich and creamy. Carb overload, they also serve corn. I didnt care for the corn, myself, but others at the table seemed to enjoy it. After eating thousands of calories in one sitting, I left full and pleased.

Oh, my gosh! I love Babe's it's one of my favorites. If you are looking for awesome homestyle/southern food then get ready. This place has it. I have also been to Roanoke, Burleson, Carrollton, Garland. The Garland location has ribs.....YUM! One of the biggest chicken fried steak's you will ever see and the best cream style corn ever.

After hearing all of the hype about Babe's Chicken. My husband and I had to try for our self. We were more impress with decor than the Food it self. Having been told about huge size portions, My husband ordered Fried Chicken and I ordered Vegetable plate. It came with salad with simple Vinaigrette dressing which I like. Biscuit, Side order of Green beans, Cream corn , Mash potato with Gravy. We both thought Chicken was really salty. Granted, it's cooked to perfection but not much depth in the flavor dept. I did like Mash potato and Biscuit. But Can do without Can Green beans. Over all the food was 3 stars it's just OK.

Let's get the negatives out of the way first. The salad is bland, just a bowl of lettuce with a weak vinagrette. That's it. That's the only negative I've got to say. The fried chicken is excellent, but the smoked chicken is some of the best I've ever had anywhere, ever. The chicken fried steak is huge, and perfectly prepared. The vegetables are great, particularly the green beans. The biscuits are wonderful. I can't say much about the deserts I'm afraid, by the time I work my way through the massive amount of food they give you, I've never really felt up to eating dessert. The menu is simple, pick an entree, they bring out the bland salad, followed by a large serving of each person's entree, plates of hot biscuits, and bowls of vegertables served family style. The bowls of vegetables are refilled when empty, as are the biscuits.

Out of the three Babe's we've gone to (Frisco, Cedar Hill, & Garland), this one has the BEST fried chicken. Even my hubby, who prefers the smoked chicken, was stealing my fried chicken! Their service was attentive and the cashier knew her stuff. We may need to take a quick road trip down for some more awesome fried chicken. mmmm....

I'm from Los Angeles, so I'm not exactly a southern-food expert, but I do have a Grandma from Corbin, Kentucky, the home of Kentucky Fried Chicken. My Grandma would cry if she read this, but Babe's Chicken kicks the ass of any chicken from Kentucky or anywhere else! Oh, I'm getting so hungry just thinking about it! So here's the rundown: You enter this big barn of a space, packed with picnic-style tables, and you order your "meat" (obvs I rec. the fried chicken) and then you get this weird salad that consists of a pile of iceberg lettuce with a sweet vinaigrette dressing. It's actually refreshing and whets your appetite in an unexpected way. Then comes your giant platter of chicken, and a bunch of grandma-style bowls of mashed taters, creamed corn, green beans, and a plate of fluffy, delicious biscuits. Each side dish is DELICIOUS and they'll just refill them over & over 'til you're absolutely stuffed. It's a ton of food, though, so don't go to Babe's unless you're really hungry or it would be a waste. I have a new Grandma and her name is Babe!

Great place for a group! The manager was very friendly about checking her ingredients in the mashed potatoes since I have a certain food sensitivity. My daughter pigged out on the creamed corn. I loved the decor.

We enjoyed the atmosphere, nothing fancy, just different. The entire staff and our waiter was very courteous!! Our waiter explained " how things worked there" we all ordered the chicken fried steak and all agreed that it was probably the best we ever had. The never ending sides were great too! Kids loved it all to! We will definitely be back and probably soon!

My wife and I ate at Babe's Chicken in Cedar Hill a couple of weeks ago and it is the best food I have ever ate in my life. I actually did not wanna leave and could have ate their mashed potatoes all day long. We had the chicken fried steak which was tender and great with the cream gravy. We also had the catfish which tasted like they just caught it in the back and fried it up. Talking about fresh!!! This place is a must visit and bring some friends with you cause its family style eating here.

This was about the most highly anticipated visit to a restaurant that I haad in a long time. Everybody loves Babe's and its down home food and style. And it definitely delivered. I was blown away when I gave my order and tried to give my choice of side items and she said "you get all of the side items with the meal." I was floored, I've never heard this before at a restaurant, especially at these recession-friendly prices. My anticipation was well-deserved.
